This book tells the story of Mr. Duncan, who finally finds a job at a chemical paint factory, after losing his wife and his house. However, he finds out that something dangerous is stripping into the river.
Ana C. Rodríguez (NI1-B) read it, and she thought it was "good". Her favourite character is Duncan's daughter, Christine, who is young, intelligent and studious. She loves nature and the environment.
Cristina Fernández (NI1-A) read it as well, and she found it "good", too. One scene she particularly enjoyed was the one where we are told how John has been testing the waste products on rats for weeks, and baby rats start to be born with no eyes, no ears or six legs.
